Female robbers in high street attack

DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a woman was attacked and robbed by two other women in Gillingham High Street.

The 29-year-old victim was walking home from the Viscount Hardinge public house after spending the evening with friends.

She stopped and sat down on a bench in the High Street between Somerfield supermarket and a Chinese restaurant. She had been there for about five minutes when she was approached by two females aged around 20. One of them snatched her bag and took her mobile phone and purse.

The second woman grabbed the victim and threw her onto the ground. The first offender then kicked and punched the victim a number of times, only stopping when a passer-by pulled them away from the victim.

The offenders then both ran off along the High Street in the direction of Canterbury Street.

The robbery happened between 11.30pm on Thursday, August 5, and 12.30am the next morning.

One of the offenders is described as Afro Caribbean, 5ft 7in, slim build with shoulder-length hair, worn in a pony tail. She was wearing a white skirt or trousers and top.

The second is white European, 5ft 6in and of medium build, with shoulder-length dark brown curly hair. She was wearing blue jeans with a white T-shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01634 884252.
