Elderly robbery victim dies in hospital

A 93-YEAR-OLD woman has died days after being robbed of her handbag as she walked home in a Kent town.

Ethel Pym suffered a broken leg in the robbery, which happened at the junction of College Road and Upper Dane Road, Margate, on July 5.

The incident took place at about 2pm and she was taken to the nearby QEQM hospital for treatment, where she died on Sunday, July 9.

A post-mortem has been carried out but the results will not be known for several weeks.

Police arrested Colin Murray, 31, of Appledore Close, Margate, on the same day as the incident and he appeared at Margate Magistrates on July 6 charged

with robbery.

His case was then sent to Canterbury Crown Court, where he appeared briefly on Friday.

Denzil Pugh, prosecuting, said there were complications in the case because of Mrs Pym's death and it was consequently expected that there may be further charges.

He requested that the hearing be adjourned to September 8 as it will take about three months to establish the exact cause of death.

The case will be dealt with at Maidstone because of the possiblity of further charges.

McMurry was remanded in custody.
