A car catapulted 80ft through the air and ended up on its roof on top of a Kent roundabout, seriously injuring the driver.

The crash happened at the bottom of Four Elms Hill in the early hours of Friday and involved a silver Volkswagen Polo.

Firefighters had to cut the side off the car to free the male driver. He suffered serious head injuries.

Police said he is in a "critical but stable" condition at Medway Maritime Hospital.

The road was closed for several hours as crash investigators examined the scene. It reopened at around 5am.
