A HUSBAND who put a home-made bomb in his wife’s car after starting an affair with a woman he met on the Internet was today jailed for 10 years.

Robert Bottom, 36, of Green Close, Hawkinge, near Folkestone, admitted causing an explosion likely to endanger life. His not guilty plea to attempted murder was accepted.

Caroline Bottom, 50, of Main Road, Chattenden, near Rochester, escaped with shock and singed hair after the device wired to her indicators exploded as she was driving on Christmas Eve last year.

Judge Andrew Patience, QC, told Bottom at Maidstone Crown Court: “What you did deliberately could have set in train the most horrifying sequence. The sentence I pass is a heavy and long one.”
