Cabbie may have clues to assault

POLICE are hoping to speak to a taxi driver who may have seen a serious assault.

The attack happened on Saturday, March 17, when a 42-year-old man was walking home from the Qubar in Margate.

The victim was passing the fishing tackle shop on King Street at about 11.40pm when he was struck on the head by an unknown implement and knocked unconscious.

He suffered a broken jaw, cuts and bruising.

Officers would like to identify two men in connection with the attack.

One man is described as white, aged 20 to 30, with dark short hair and wore a black-hooded top and blue jeans. The second man is described as white, aged 20 to 30, of slim build with fair hair and wore a white jumper top with stripes.

Following a police appeal, a witness came forward to say that a taxi drove up the street and the car horn was repeatedly sounded at about 11.40pm when the assault happened. It is believed that the taxi was a green or blue Peugeot 406.

The taxi driver is urged to contact PC David Greig on 01843 222079.
