Bumper crowd at the races

ANOTHER huge crowd attended the meeting on Sunday at Penshurst for the Old Surrey Burstow and West Kent fixture.

Two horses came from Sherborne in Dorset to win their respective races and giving rider Charlotte Tizzard a double to brind her tally in the National Ladies Championships to nine, so keeping her chances very much alive against Rilly Goschen and Polly Gundry with four winners int he past week.

Her first success came in the PPORA race when she partnered Bak on Board. Her second came in the Ladies riding Perkys Price for owner Tracy Williams who spends most of her time milking a herd of 250 cows.

She bought the horse for £1,500 from a private advert from David Pipe, sone of champion trainer Martin Pipe, who thought the horse would not make a racehorse but be a good hack.

Struggles Glory dominated the market in the Men’s Open and, as he has so often done in the past, gave his owner rider a superb ride to record his fourth win in as many runs this season.

The meeting on Sunday takes place at Catsfield near Battle, where the East Sussex and Romney Marsh Hunt hold their fixture with the first of six races starting at 2pm.

Struggles Glory is once again entered in the Men’s Open, and in his current form would be hard to oppose, but if Cape Stormer lines up there will be a cracking race.
