Kent's vacant head coach position continues to attract interest from overseas with several Australian candidates having applied for the job.

Chief executive Jamie Clifford said several coaches had expressed an interest in the role but have not yet applied. The deadline for applications is on Monday.

Mr Clifford said: "We’ve had a lot of interest, particularly from overseas. County cricket jobs do not come up every day so there has been a lot of interest from guys all over the world. There has been a lot of Australian interest, possibly because it fits nicely with their season. There are also people that have expressed an interest but have not yet applied, so they have another week to do so. There has been an encouraging response."

Mr Clifford also said he would welcome an application from Paul Nixon after the former Kent and England wicketkeeper expressed an interest in the job last week.

The 41-year-old has reportedly now applied for the position, although he is in talks with Leicestershire about becoming their new batting coach.

Former Glamorgan batsman Michael Powell looks set to be the first of several signings this winter as Kent seek to rebuild their squad. The 34-year-old was released at the end of last season after 15 years with the Welsh county and is in talks over a move to Canterbury.

Mr Clifford said: "I can’t deny that we have had conversations with him. He has been down to Canterbury but we are not at the point of signing him yet.
