SALLY ROBERTS: in her job she built strong community tiess

A YOUNG police officer has died on holiday following a collision with a jet ski.

PC Sally Roberts, who served in the Crystal Palace area, was with her boyfriend Andrew Freeman in Mombassa, Kenya, when the incident happened last Saturday.

The 28-year-old from Sussex had been a PC for three years. Her family is devastated by the tragic news and her parents have flown to Kenya, police said.

Her sisters, Gill and Suzanne, said: "Sally was a very thoughtful and caring person who will leave a big gap in our family. She will be sorely missed."

Sgt Spence Ogilvie, of the Crystal Palace Triangle Safer Neighbourhood team, said: "The team has lost more than a colleague. Colleagues come and go but Sally was a friend, a member of the family, a friend I admired enormously. The service didn’t and wasn’t going to change her.

"She did this job for the right reasons, to help people and make the community she served better, and she put her heart into it.

"Sally was the ultimate people’s person.

"Sally’s achievements were immeasurable. She built strong community ties and gained the trust and respect of the local community."
