A2290 Old Thanet Way closed between Whitstable and Herne Bay after crash involving four cars

A main road has been closed following a crash involving several cars left two people in hospital.

The accident took place between Herne Bay and Whitstable, causing the Old Thanet Way to close for almost four hours.

The cars were involved in the incident between B2205 Greenhill Bridge Road and Herne Bay Road near Chestfield.

Traffic was left queuing and the A2290 was closed in both directions after the incident at 12.25pm but has since reopened.

Pictures taken at the scene show a Mercedes, Smart and a third blue vehicle on a low-loader.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service and two people were taken to a local hospital.

"The road was closed while the incident was responded to but has since reopened."

It is not yet known whether anyone suffered serious injuries but is understood they were not life-threatening.
