Burglar pretended to be motorcycle crash victim to steal from house in Herne Bay

A callous burglar pretended to have been involved in a motorcycle crash to get inside his victim's house.

The conman knocked on a door in Mortimer Street, Herne Bay and claimed he was injured.

Detective Sergeant Richard Allen said: "The occupant let him in and offered him a drink.

"It was only after he had gone that the occupant noticed a Seiko diver's watch worth £400 had gone."

The burglary happened between 5.30am and 5.45am yesterday.

The man was described as white, of a slim build, about 5ft 10in tall and aged between 25 and 30.

He had brown hair and was unshaven and was wearing a blue jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms.

DS Allen is urging people to be vigilant and to always check the identity of anyone at their door.

He added: "Don’t be afraid to turn people away and please look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours and relatives."
