Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon thanks fans for their support at East Thurrock United

Daryl McMahon admitted the Ebbsfleet supporters deserved a better performance than they got on Saturday.

Fleet fans accounted for the majority of the 669 crowd at East Thurrock, where it finished goalless in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

The visitors play a league higher but it didn't often show and Ebbsfleet now face a replay at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday night.

McMahon said: "It was really boring. In terms of my team, we didn’t do enough, didn’t reach the standards I expect from us.

"That happens sometimes and it’s important we dust ourselves down and get ready for Tuesday night at home.

"Hopefully the unbelievable crowd we had here today come out again on Tuesday night to support us and we give them something to cheer about.

"Our crowd was amazing today. We didn't give them enough to sing about and they still sung.

"I don’t think we were at it anywhere. We started OK, had a couple of blocked shots and a couple of decent passages of play that we strung together but not enough from what I expect of us.

"In the second half I thought we were poor."

Danny Kedwell must have been flagged offside half a dozen times in the first half, to his immense frustration, especially when he headed a Sean Shields cross into the net in added time.

"Everyone said it was onside but it’s difficult for me to see," McMahon said. "We’ll look back at the video.

"Even their lad said it was onside but that happens. Across the course of the season, sometimes those decisions go for you and sometimes they don’t."

East Thurrock were denied a late winner when Nathan Ashmore got enough on a Sam Higgins effort to push it round the post. Higgins has scored 12 goals already this season and looked certain to make it 13 when he got the wrong side of the last defender.

"They could have nicked it," McMahon admitted. "It was a great save at the end from Ash.

"We go again Tuesday night and we’re still in the hat. It wasn’t a good performance from us by any stretch of the imagination, we were way below our standards but that happens sometimes in the cup."
