A man, who was resuscitated three times after an almost fatal heart attack, has met up with the crew who saved his life.

Paul James, 45, collapsed at his home in Northfleet, following a cardiac arrest in June this year.

His quick-thinking wife Rose dialled 999 and gave Paul CPR under instructions from phone operator Sophia Hearn, until ambulance staff arrived three minutes later.

The father-of-two has no memory of the incident and is now recovering at home after undergoing ground-breaking surgery at Darent Valley Hospital in Darenth Wood Road, Dartford, where he had a heart defibrillator fitted inside his chest.

If his heart stops again the defibrillator will automatically kick in.

Mr and Mrs James visited the ambulance crew, at Thames-side ambulance station in Coldharbour Road, Northfleet yesterday.

He said: "Although I have no memory of what happened to me, I was always being told about how quick the ambulance arrived and how great all the crew were in my resuscitation and the care I received in hospital, so it was great to meet the crew that saved my life."
