Fuel spillage causes Gravesend gridlock

A fuel spillage caused rush-hour gridlock in Gravesend this morning (Friday).

Firefighters were called to the incident which followed a crash in Rochester Road, near its junction with Empress Road, at about 9am.

Traffic was backed up along Rochester Road to Chalk, and heavy queues quickly built up on all surrounding routes, including Old Road East.

Police and highways chiefs had managed to clear the scene by about 10am.
