Former Gravesham councillor Colin Dennis has died, it was announced today.

Mr Dennis, who was a councillor for Painters Ash ward until recently, died at the EllenorLions Hospice on Wednesday. He was 68.

He had been ill for some time and resigned his seat on March 8 due to his failing health. He lived in Gainsborough Drive, Northfleet.

Council leader Cllr John Burden said: "At this sad time our thoughts are with Colin’s family. Colin will be sorely missed by his colleagues and the community he served."

The by-election has been set for May 2 to coincide with the Kent County Council elections.
