Biker seriously injured after A2 smash

The London-bound carriageway has reopened on the A2 near Pepperhill after a serious smash this morning.

A car and a motorbike crashed at around 8.45am, leaving the biker with possibly life-threatening injuries.

He was treated by air ambulance at the scene in Gravesend.

The carriageway closed until 1pm today.

Traffic from Dover port and the Channel Tunnel were being advised to use the M20, as the M2 London-bound is heavily congested with five-mile tailbacks. Traffic using the M2/A2 is advised to use the A249 and the A229 to reach London via the M20. Bluewater traffic is advised to use the M25.

Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the incident.

Chief Inspector Andy Reeves said: "We urge anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us with any information. In particular we wish to speak to the driver of a blue van, possibly a transit van, who may be a key witness."

Anyone with information can call Kent Police on 01622 798538. Alternatively they can call Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. You do not have to give your name.
