A SECOND dolphin has arrived in a Kent town.

Joining Dave the Dolphin, who has been in Folkestone for more than a year, is a common dolphin, who was spotted at the harbour this week.

Two members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) organisation travelled to the town on Tuesday morning to monitor the animal.

Dolphin expert Jason Carter said: "We had reports of dolphin sightings in the harbour. We knew it wasn't Dave as he is in the Seabrook area and this one is about half the size.

"We are hoping it will swim out when the tide goes out. We are worried about it becoming stranded, so will hang around to see what happens.

"Some dolphins are coastal and some are deep water, so we're not too surprised to see another one here. There are dolphins all around the UK."

Members of BDMLR are keeping a close eye on the area over the next few days in case the dolphin returns. It is thought the animal might have broken loose from a pod and become lost, or it could be a solitary dolphin recently seen in Eastbourne which has made its way here.
