Tributes have been to active community member Mary Chastney, who died in a three car crash on the A2 near Faversham on Monday morning.

Mrs Chastney, 76, lived in The Street, Doddington.

She was a former Doddington Parish Council chairman and vie-chairman and WI president.

Parish council chairman Graham Cuthbert said: “She was one of those people who joined in and helped with everything.”

Friend Sue Kirby said: "She was a fantastically busy lady and gave her all to the village.”

Mrs Chastney, a widow, was driving a blue Chevrolet Matiz which was in collision with a silver Ford Mondeo and a silver Ford Focus at the junction between London Road and Faversham Road to Newnham at 10.20am.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

The driver of the Mondeo, a 73-year-old man, was treated at the scene for shock and minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The driver and passenger in the Ford Focus received no injuries but were treated at the scene for shock.

London Road was shut in both directions to enable police officers to investigate the collision.

The road was reopened at 4pm.

Anyone with information about the accident should contact Kent Police’s serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
