GARY WHITTLE: "We will come out all guns blazing"

AFTER the excitement of the FA Cup, Dover Athletic get back to league business on Saturday against Heybridge Swifts.

Despite the 1-0 defeat against AFC Wimbledon, Whites are unbeaten in the Ryman Premier under caretaker manager Gary Whittle and will be looking to keep the run going at the Hoverspeed Stadium.

“We will come out all guns blazing,” said Whittle. “We need to win our home games. If we win on Saturday we will go level on points with them.”

Whittle will be rejigging his formation for the game to free Craig Cloke to move back into the middle.

Reflecting on Whites’ FA Cup exit, Whittle said: “We definitely missed Cloke’s drive in midfield."

Paul Hyde’s thigh injury flared up during Saturday’s game and caused him to be substituted just before the interval. He will not be risked on Saturday and Pat Mullin will deputise.

Whittle admitted he should not have risked Hyde: “I let my heart rule my head. In future I will always ask a player with an injury to prove his fitness with 90 minutes in the reserves.”

Craig Wilkins will play if his minor thigh strain clears up in time.

Many fans were disappointed that impressive central defender John Scarborough left the club prior to the AFC Wimbledon clash and signed for Sutton United, but Whittle said: “We offered him a contract but the lad felt that at 25 years of age he wanted to try his luck in Conference South.”
