Cricket club scraps 2nd team after tragedy

DOVER Cricket Club are scrapping their Saturday 2nd team with immediate effect (Andrew Stucken writes).

The Crabble club cancelled both its Mid-Kent League fixtures last Saturday after several members of the 2nd XI were too upset to play following the death of a friend, Tristan Currie, in a motorcycle accident.

Dover, however, have been struggling to field two teams since joining the Mid-Kent League from the Kent League this season.

And Mid-Kent League officials have now agreed to Dover’s request to withdraw their second team from the league.

* Dover are planning to stage a memorial weekend for Tristan Currie in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
