Varsity Channel match

The latest battle between Oxford and Cambridge relay swimming teams across the Channel has resulted in a win for Oxford.

Every two years since 1998 teams from the two universities have raced each other from England to France.

Oxford reached the French shore in 10 hours, and Cambridge in 10 hours 20 minutes.

In 2006 the Cambridge team won by 28 minutes, and in 2004 the Cambridge team won by 24 minutes.

The previous two races, in 2002 and 2000, were won by Oxford and the first race in 1998 was a dead heat in nine hours 24 minutes.
