Demolition of Dover Leisure Centre, Townwall Street

First a huge gap in the former Dover Leisure Centre, then it will all disappear.

These photographs, taken today, show the progress of the demolition of the Townwall Street sports centre.

A flank wall, in full view of London-bound drivers on the A20, has vanished, leaving a huge empty shell.

The roofing has also gone and it is expected the original main entrance to the left will also soon be flattened.

DDS Demolition began pulling down the structure two weeks ago and the work is due to finish in May,

It is not yet known what will replace it.

Dover Leisure Centre opened on January 10, 1976 as Dover Sports Complex and closed on February 17, 2019.

By the 2010s it had reached such a state of decay that it was considered more economical to replace it than repair it.
