Man dies in thick fog crash

The motorcyclist who was killed in thick fog just off the A2 outside Dover on Friday has been named.

He was Maciej Lipiarz, 45, from Poland, who had been living in Dover for two years.

He was on his way home from work at Tilmanstone Salads when the accident happened at about 6.15am at the junction with the A256, between Whitfield and Guston.

It is a double roundabout junction which connects the A2 with the A256 road to Sandwich and the access road to the White Cliffs Business Park.

Police believe the Yamaha Virago motorcycle, which was being ridden towards Dover on the A256, collided with the roundabout at the top of the slip road to the A2 at Whitfield.

Mr Lipiarz was declared dead at the scene.

The roads were closed and officers from the Serious Crash Investigation unit attended. The road was reopened at 10.44am.

A police spokesman said the circumstances of the incident had not been fully ascertained, but it is not thought another vehicle was involved.
