PEOPLE had to be evacuated from a leisure centre this afternoon following a chemical spill.

Fire crews, including a special unit from Ashford, were called to Dover Leisure Centre after a small, but very potent, amount of a chemical was discovered.

The chemical was said to be four times stronger than chlorine.

The area was cordoned off, and traffic has been diverted while the spillage is dealt with.
