Bangs alert resident to car fire in Astor Avenue in Dover

Fire crews have tackled a car fire in Dover.

Two fire engines responded to the incident in Astor Avenue shortly after 2.30pm.

Bobbie-Louise Willis living in the Tower Hamlets area was alarmed by some banging noises, before noticing smoke billowing in the sky at the end of her garden.

She said: "My garden is higher than my house, so I couldn't see it.

"But I heard a few bangs. It sounded like a firework and then I saw smoke appearing in the air."

The incident was dealt with by 3.43pm and no casualties were reported.

A spokesman said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2.37pm today to a car alight near Astor Avenue, Dover.

"Two fire engines attended and crews wore breathing apparatus while tackling the flames with hose reel jets."

Police have been contacted for a comment.
