A public meeting in Sandwich has agreed to a new constitution for the Richborough Action Group (RAG) and officers were elected.

RAG’s media officer Mary Smith said: "It was felt it was vital that all villages and towns be represented, especially those residents of Deal who are going to be significantly affected by the massively increased use of the facilities in Southwall Road if the closure of Richborough’s centre goes ahead.

"We will meet soon and we promise an active campaign that will be very visible, very soon."

A committee was elected to lead the campaign against the loss of the household waste and recycling centre, on the A245 north of Sandwich, which is due to close in August 2013 due to county council budget cuts.
