Confusion reigns in the boardroom at Dover Athletic with three of the five directors claiming to have resigned - although chairman Jim Parmenter says the matter is still being discussed.

A mysterious incident believed to involve another club official is thought to be behind the unrest – with Steve Williams, Dave Weber and Roger Knight all saying they are resigning their posts at the end of a week of furious speculation.

However, Mr Parmenter (pictured) said "the situation is evolving and discussions are ongoing" with the other directors but would add no further comment.

An earlier statement on the club website quoted Mr Parmenter as saying: "Some of my colleagues may be stepping down from the board and I’d like to thank them for their fantastic efforts over the last four years. I know some of them will remain closely associated with the club."

Meanwhile, in statements released to supporters, Steve Williams said: "I have resigned as a result of an incident, which is a private matter between the Parmenter family and myself, end of story."

Dave Weber said: "I have resigned from the Board on a point of principle but I am still 100 per cent behind the club as are Steve and Roger obviously.

"People come and go at any club but the club is more important than any one person and none of us are irreplaceable."

Roger Knight said: "I would like to confirm that I am continuing with my responsibilities and commitments to the club, both commercially and personally. I will never allow any issues, personal or otherwise, to adversely affect the club’s future prospects.

"Having spoken to both Dave Weber and to Steve Williams I can assure you that they will both continue to support the club."

Mr Parmenter has added Scottish financier and accountant Scott Rutherford and former Whites physio and secretary Frank Clarke to the board.
