A man is due to appear in court today charged in connection with the attack on a 15-year-old boy in Dover at the weekend.

James Pettman, 19, of Belgrave Road, Dover, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm and will appear at Folkestone Magistrates Court.

Three other Dover men, aged 18, 28 and 31, and a 25-year-old woman who were also arrested by officers investigating the incident, have been released on bail until November 21 pending further enquiries.

The incident happened at 9.45pm on Saturday when the 15-year-old was waiting outside a newsagents in Worthington Street, Dover. There was an altercation with another young man, and the teenager suffered a serious head injury which, at one stage, was said to be life-threatening.

He was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and then King's College Hospital in London.

The injury was later said to be life-changing, rather than life-threatening, but the boy remains in a critical condition.
