Dover Athletic came away from Chelmsford City with a hard-earned point on Monday evening.

In front of a crowd of 1,578, it was Dover who had the upper hand in the first half and created what limited opportunities there were.

And, with the home fans becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of attacking action from their own side it was Whites who duly went in front with 35 minutes gone. A right-sided corner was swung into the box where centre half Olly Schulz powered home a bullet header.

The Clarets came out a different side in the second half and the early addition of substitute striker Rob Edmans to the fray bore immediate fruit.

His pass through to Ricky Holmes resulted in the winger being brought down in the area and skipper Dave Rainford took on the responsibility of rolling his spot-kick into the bottom left-hand corner.

Towards the end both sides went in search of what would have been a cruel winner and the heat of the game was raised.

With second lefts, Chelmsford thought they had snatched the winner. A perfectly-weighted pass was floated over the top of the Whites defence for Edmans to run on and beat Lee Hook, but to the relief of Whites' travelling army it was ruled out for offside.

Dover: Hook, Southall, Rogers, Hill, Schulz, Keister, Moore, Davis (Gore 79mins), Welford, Birchall (Collin 82mins), Browning (Hughes 69mins).
