Car driver in death crash is named

KENT Police have named a young man who was killed when his car was in collision with a lorry on the A20.

Stephen Newman, 20, who lived at Church Lane at Deal, was driving in dense fog on the London-bound carriageway between Capel and Dover at about 7.15pm last Friday when he appeared to lose control of his vehicle.

The Peugeot 405 mounted the kerb and collided with a lorry parked in a lay-by. Mr Newman suffered extensive head injuries.

Nine firefighters from Dover and Folkestone attended the scene and tried to resuscitate him until ambulance crews arrived. He was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford but died from his injuries. There were no other casualties.

Darrell Tonks, crew manager at Dover fire station, said: “The fog may have been a contributing factor.” An inquest will be held.
