Danny Harris prepared to play up front or on the wing if it means he keeps his place in Dartford's starting line-up

Danny Harris has admitted his versatility counts against him at times.

Dartford boss Tony Burman has played him in a variety of positions since he joined the club six years ago.

Harris has been used as a central striker and operated down both flanks but rarely gets a long run in the starting XI.

The 29-year-old said: "Playing in numerous positions you don’t seem to get a run in one position and you’re not as consistently good.

"Getting a run on the left-hand side recently, I’ve benefited from playing constantly in one position. When you’re swapping and changing, you get used to one position and then you’re playing somewhere else."

Some players would insist they be considered for one particular role rather than being moved around.

But Harris said: "If the gaffer thinks it’s better for me to play up front or on the right, I have to go with that decision.

"I’m getting old now so I want as many games as I can before I call it a day."

Harris looks comfortable in the 4-2-3-1 system which has helped Dartford put together a five-match unbeaten run in National League South.

He’s scored two goals during that sequence, most recently in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Havant & Waterlooville.

Harris said: "Work-rate and running are the main attributes of my game. I like it when I can make runs across people.

"I’m enjoying it out on the left – even though I haven’t got a left foot as such!

"I wasn’t starting at the beginning of the season but when I got my opportunity, I think I’ve played OK.

"When you’re playing constantly, you’re getting confident and your fitness improves."
