Dartford boss Tony Burman insists he won’t break the bank in a bid to make his side competitive in the Blue Square Bet Premier next season.

Burman (pictured) admits he won’t be able to match the spending of the top sides next season but knows being prudent is best.

He said: "The club can only do what they feel is right and we don’t want to see the club in jeopardy. It’s not the best budget (in the division) by a long, long way but we have to be careful.

"We have to keep things tight and that’s what we’ve always done. We can’t over spend and I don’t want to be spending supporters’ money carelessly."

Burman – named this week as Blue Square Bet South manager of the month for April – has been busy meeting his players since winning last week’s play-off final over Welling, as he bids to find out who is able to stay on next season.

With long distance trips to places such as Grimsby, Wrexham, Gateshead and Stockport to plan next season, it could leave several of Burman’s team struggling to mix part-time football with full-time jobs.

He said: "At the moment I am confident the majority want to stay although there will be ones who can’t stay because it’s physically impossible for them.

"Discussions have been open and I just have to make sure they have got to be able to commit."
