Rail fare dodgers pay the penalty

TRAIN users who didn’t buy a ticket have been left counting the cost with fines imposed by magistrates at Dartford.

Ama Baiden, 20, of Henderson Drive, Dartford, was caught by ticket inspectors on June 27 at Dartford Railway Station.

She had only a 20p permit to travel between Charlton and Dartford. She pleaded guilty and was fined £40 plus the £3.40 fare she evaded. She was also ordered to pay £100 court costs.

James Burn, 20, was caught at Swanscombe Railway Station on June 16. Burn, of Keary Road, Swanscombe, was found guilty in his absence by magistrates and fined £120 plus the £2.40 fare and £100 court costs.

Gary Humphrey, 23, of Fulwich Road, Dartford, was caught twice by inspectors – at Higham Railway Station and at Dartford, both times on July 5.

He was found guilty in his absence by the magistrates and fined £240 plus a £10.60 fare. He must also pay £200 in court costs.

Andrea Sava, 22, was caught at Dartford Railway Station on July 6 with only a child’s ticket.

Sava, of Savoy Road, Dartford, was found guilty in her absence by magistrates, fined £120, the £2.60 fare and £100 court costs.
