A hospital has warned people to be vigilant after youths tried to steal a consultant's bike.

A motorcycle was stolen from Darent Valley Hospital on the same day the youngsters were spotted trying to take off with the bicycle.

A visitor to the Dartford hospital reported his motorcycle had been stolen from car park 2 on Wednesday, August 22.

Youths on mopeds were interrupted the same day while attempting to steal a motorcycle belonging to a member of staff.

CCTV images captured the youths in the act but their identities were shielded by their helmets.

A separate incident involving the theft of a motorbike was also reported at Gravesend Minor Injuries Unit, at Gravesham Community Hospital, in Bath Street, Gravesend.

Sue Daniels, communications manager for Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, said the hospital had experienced incidents of this kind before but this was the first time it had happened for many years.

She advised visitors to remain vigilant if parking on site and to remember to lock up their bikes in the designated motorcycle shed at the front of the hospital.

A separate statement on the Darent Valley Hospital Facebook page read: "Motorcyclists are advised to review their security locks and chains for their bikes. There are plenty of people around which may act as a deterrent and increase the likelihood of detection if someone does attempt to steal a motorbike."

Police were contacted for comment.
