Charlton Athletic 1 Barnet 0

Kyel Reid’s first-half strike was the difference as Charlton edged out Barnet to move into the second round of the FA Cup.

However, the Addicks were indebted to goalkeeper Rob Elliott for inspiring them to victory, with the Charlton number one pulling off a string of top-class saves to deny the Bees.

From the moment Elliott palmed away George Francomb’s free-kick early on, the Charlton stopper was in the thick of the action.

Barnet, bottom of League 2, put in a performance that belied their lowly league position, causing constant threats to the Charlton defence throughout the 90 minutes.

However, it was Reid (pictured) who had his finishing boots on, with his 18 minute goal all that separated the sides.

Reid outmuscled his marker, drove in from the right then fired a shot past Jake Cole that flew in off the post.

And it was enough to prove decisive, propelling Charlton into the next round where they will face Luton or Corby.
