A2 shut as firefighters tackle van blaze

One of the county's main roads was closed to traffic after an incident during this morning's rush hour.

Two fire pumps were called to the scene on the London-bound stretch of the A2 between the Bean junction and the Darenth interchange, near Dartford, shortly before 9am.

A witness said a 12-seater van was on fire and another car was also be involved.

A police spokesman said: "The incident was a road traffic collision between two vehicles and firefighters found one of the vehicles well alight. They used water and foam on the fire. There were no casualties."

The incident caused traffic tailbacks, although the Highways Agency expected the road to be back to normal at around 10.30am.
