TWO police officers were taken to hospital following a road crash which closed Dartford town centre for more than three hours.

The incident happened at about 9.50am on Tuesday in Home Gardens, close to the junction with East Hill, while the officers were on their way to investigate a reported accident.

It involved their patrol car and a blue Mercedes, whose driver was not injured.

Firefighters had to help free the two men from their vehicle before paramedics could take them to Darent Valley Hospital where they received treatment.

Police closed the bottom of East Hill and diverted traffic travelling towards the town along Darenth Road.

The road closure remained in place until 1pm to allow officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit to carry out inquiries.
