Underdogs Canterbury claim superb cup win

CANTERBURY Rugby Club produced a stunning comeback to lift the Shepherd Neame Kent Cup for only the second time in their history at Maidstone on Sunday.

The Powergen London 1 underdogs trailed National League side Westcombe Park 25-12 early in the second half before hitting back superly to triumph 34-28.

Chris Harrison, who started the game at full-back before taking over at scrum-half, grabbed two tries with the others coming from forwards Simon Apps, Oliver Robinson and Rob Keir, on his 100th appearance for the club.

Fly-half Tom Hills, outstanding through, added three conversions and a penalty.

For Westcombe Park full-back Gert DeKock claimed two tries, with one each for Hanno Eksteen and Sam Greenaway. Sam Barnett kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Canterbury's only previous Kent Cup win was in 1977 although they were finalists in 1997.
