Faversham boss Ray Turner was impressed by new midfielder Michael Jenner’s debut in the entertaining pre-season defeat to Gillingham on Saturday.

The former Herne Bay man signed at Salters Lane last week after spending last year at Hollands & Blair.

Turner said: “I thought he did well on Saturday. His distribution was excellent.
“He was on trial but I kept it to myself. He wasn’t sure he was going to play this year as he has a young family but he’s shown ambition to play at a higher level with us.

“He’s going to be an important player for us and is another technically good player in our midfield.”

Midfielder Aiden Sherlock has, however, decided to join Erith & Belvedere, with Turner saying: “It’s disappointing, as we weren’t looking to lose him but sometimes people make decisions for reasons other than football.”

Turner was thrilled with his side’s battling display against newly-promoted League 1 side Gillingham in the curtain-raiser at Salters Lane on Saturday.

He said: “It was a great day for the club. There was a great crowd of 650-plus, some good football and good goals. The only downside was that I only had 12 fit and available senior players and no centre-halves, so I had to play Lyndon and Toby Ashmore there and they fared pretty well against the likes of Danny Kedwell and Adam Birchall.”
