Old Patesians 0 Canterbury 29

CANTERBURYgot their National League South season back on track with a 29-0 win against Old Patesians at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The victory was a big boost after the club suffered back-to-back defeats either side of the Christmas and New Year break, and coach Danny Vaughan said: "We had a game plan and the players made it work. It was our most impressive first half performance of the season."

The visitors made light of difficult conditions on a short, windswept pitch, winning maximum points, taking a 21st minute lead courtesy of a penalty try which David Dorton converted.

Prop Jamie Forsyth added a second score, after good work by scrum half Nicky Woodbridge, and Tim Aistrope's pick-up and transfer inside, and then Dorton added another penalty goal after Patesians prop Chris Downes was "sin-binned".

Rowan O'Gorman and Pat Sykes added further tries inside the last seven minutes in a fine team performance, with Bernthal, Forsyth and Dorton's place-kicking with only one miss in five attempts deserve mention.
