An elderly woman is in a serious condition in hospital after an accident in Whitstable town centre on Wednesday.

The 80-year-old local woman collided with a blue Ford Escort as she made her way across a zebra crossing in Oxford Street.

She was taken to the QEQM Hospital in Margate after sustaining serious head injuries, where her condition is described as critical.

Emergency services closed the road until 11.45pm to allow investigations to take place.
