Whitstable Town boss Justin Luchford has welcomed the decision by club captain Dan Wisker to shun a move to Kent rivals Faversham.

The under-pressure Whitstable boss has recently added a handful of new faces to his squad and was delighted to be keeping Wisker.

Luchford (pictured), whose side continued their poor run with a 4-2 home defeat to Hythe last Saturday, is glad to see the player stay onboard.

He said: "He is staying with us because he can see what we are trying to do here and he loves the club.

"It would have been a perfect time for him to leave. We are going through a bit of a transition and he is probably sick of being in the bottom four. He has been here a while and it would have been a new challenge for him but he is staying and that hopefully means he is backing Richard Langley (assistant) and I.

"He can see that we are putting a strong team together but he knows it will take time. It’s great news that he is staying and massive for the club and for me."

The Oystermen take on Sittingbourne at Bourne Park on Saturday and are likely to include recent new signings Dave King, James Pinnock, Laurence Harvey and Dale Skelton.

A handful of players could also return from injury this weekend, including Shane Hamshare and Marc Cumberbatch.
