Ross Gilham-Jones will miss Canterbury’s English Hockey League play-off weekend at Cannock after suffering a knee injury on a skiing trip to Austria.

The young forward will be there, though, to cheer on his team as they bid to reclaim Premier Division status after relegation two years ago.

Player-coach Kwan Browne (pictured) said: "Ross was hurt when he overstretched, and was told it would take three weeks to heal. He is only 18, and will play a lot more big games in his career."

Men’s Conference East champions Canterbury will battle it out against Brooklands MU, who finished ninth in the Premier Division, Conference North winners Deeside Ramblers and Conference West winners Team Bath Buccaneers in a round-robin tournament with the top two clubs promoted.

Canterbury face Deeside on Saturday (3.30pm), then meet Bath the following day at the same time before facing Brooklands on Monday (12.15pm).
