Barton Court Grammar School in Canterbury removes pupil and calls in police amid sex harassment claims

A senior pupil at Canterbury's Barton Court Grammar School has been removed from classes amid allegations of sexual harassment.

Police have been alerted to the situation at the co-educational school in Longport and say they are providing "support and advice".

Head teacher Kirstin Cardus wrote to parents today to inform them that the school is dealing with the situation involving "allegations of sexual harassment by a senior student".

She said: "Please be reassured that the school has taken these allegations very seriously and has carried out a very thorough investigation which has now been referred to the police.

"All students involved are receiving, and will continue to receive, support."

It is understood that the investigation was prompted after pupils took concerns to staff.

In her letter, Ms Cardus added: "I would like to reassure all parents/students that the senior school student is not in school and there is no risk to student safety.

The school failed to respond when approached directly for a comment.
