MORE than 50 firefighters fought a serious blaze at a disused hospital in Canterbury last night. It broke out at around 7.30pm in a single storey extension at the rear of the Nunnery Fields Hospital.

The building was used for storage and hundreds of medical files are thought to have been destroyed or damaged.

But crews from Canterbury, Folkestone, Sturry, Wingham, Whitstable and Chilham battled to successfully prevent the fire from spreading to the main building. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
