Man breaks 'no sex' partner's arm

WHEN his partner refused him sex a man punched her in the face, arms and legs, and twisted her arm so violently it caused a spiral fracture.

At Canterbury Crown Court Spencer Morgan, 36, of Jubilee Road, Littlebourne, near Canterbury, was described as "an arrogant bully" when he was jailed for three years.

After the jury found him guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to 30-year-old Kelly Kelphs, Judge Adele Williams told him: "You struck her in the mouth, you delivered blows to her head, arms and legs and, worst of all, twisted her arm behind her with what must have been considerable force to cause a spiral fracture of her forearm.

"Your actions were the actions of an arrogant bully. You have shown, in my judgement, not a flicker of remorse."

Morgan had denied the assault, saying she must have broken her arm falling over as she left the house.

The jury cleared him of damaging Miss Relphs' mobile phone, which was found in pieces in the bath.

Kelly Relphs had told the court that she had been in a relationship with Morgan for two and a half years but in the weeks before the assault they had not been getting on.

On February 12 they had gone to a local pub to see friends and have a drink. After they returned home Morgan came into the bedroom and asked if she was going to get dressed up.

"That meant he wanted to have sex," she told the court. "I didn't want to as we had not been getting on very well.

"He said I never wanted to have sex any more. All I felt then was some sort of blow to my face. I felt my lip and I could taste blood and I saw blood on the duvet and pillow.

"He grabbed hold of my left arm and twisted it behind my back and he started hitting my head, legs and arms. Then he got hold of my arm and began twisting it. I screamed for him to stop as the pain was unbearable."

Miss Relphs said that she got away by saying that she wanted to go downstairs to get a drink of water.

Morgan denied the assault claiming that the argument started when he wanted to talk to her about their relationship and she refused.

He said that he had not struck her at any time or twisted her arm. He said that when she ran from the house he saw her fall and the injury must have occurred then.
