A woman who let her rottweiler foul the beach at Herne Bay and then kicked sand over the mess told a council inspector who challenged her ‘to go and get a proper job’.

The incident happened near the Clocktower and was seen by a member of the public, who reported it to the street scene inspector who was nearby.

The inspector tried to issue the woman with an £80 fixed penalty notice, but she refused to give her name and address and walked off.

However, when a Police Community Support Officer was called to the scene, the woman, who came from Sittingbourne, provided her details and was given the ticket, which was paid the following day.

The council’s head of Environment and Street Scene, Tony Parker said: "The woman in this case showed no remorse and even suggested our inspector should get a proper job.

"There was no acceptance that she had done anything wrong or understanding of the health dangers of leaving dog mess on the beach."

He added: "Catching people for this sort of offence is very difficult because you have to actually witness the incident taking place.

"We are very grateful to the member of the public who reported it and our determination to see a fixed penalty notice issued shows that we do take this issue seriously."
