EuroCanterbury Ladies missed out on the chance of European qualification when they were beaten 4-1 at Leicester in the end-of-season Investec Women's Premier Division Championships on Saturday.

Leicester raced into a 3-0 lead after just 12 minutes to effectively end any chance Canterbury had of reaching the final of the play-off event on April 15.

The home side took the lead after just two minutes when they scored from a penalty corner and made it 2-0 on 10 minutes via the same route. Two minutes later it was 3-0, but in a frantic opening, Canterbury were able to pull a goal back in the 15th minute when Natalie Seymour (pictured) tucked away a penalty flick.

Canterbury's fate was sealed two minutes from time when Leicester scored a fourth goal. Leicester now go on to meet the winners of the game between Premier Division champions Reading and Bowdon Hightown, winners of the game between the fourth and fifth-placed sides.

Canterbury men's team fared better at the weekend, in the round-robin Premier Division play-off competition.

After the first round of matches in the four-team group, Canterbury are top a goal difference following their 5-3 victory over Team Bath Buccaneers.

Canterbury found themselves a goal down after just three minutes but recovered to lead 3-1 at half-time through goals from David Mathews and Martin Sutherland and a penalty corner strike from Huw Stevens.

Bath pulled a goal back at the start of the second half, and although Matthew Burton-Bowen scored again for Canterbury on 57 minutes the home side showed no signs off throwing in the towel by making it 4-3 a minute later. Canterbury, however, made sure of the points a minute from time when Michael Farrer scored form a penalty corner.

Canterbury men now have Easter off before facing North Conference winners Brooklands MU and Premier Division University of Exeter later this month.
