Drink-drive student crashed into 3 cars

A 19-year-old student who crashed his car after a night’s drinking has been banned from driving.

Toby Barnes was driving through Sweechgate at Broad Oak, Canterbury, when he lost control of his Ford Fiesta and hit three cars before ploughing into a fence.

Canterbury magistrates heard that police arrived and found the Christ Church University student sitting on a wall.

A breath test showed he had 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Barnes, of Pennington Close, Westbere, near Canterbury, admitted drink driving.

He said he had been out with friends and was not intending to drive but did so when he was intimidated by people as he waited outside a friend’s house.

The magistrates banned him for 20 months and fined him £100, plus £60 costs.
