Kent cyclist Jamie Staff was part of the Great Britain that took a silver medal in the men’s Team Sprint at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester on Wednesday.

The British team lost out on gold to reigning champions France by five one-hundredths of a second.

“I was probably the freshest I have ever been,” said Staff, from Ashford.

“We have a good platform to work now and hopefully there is no more trial and error and everyone knows what works for them.

“We just need to close the gap to the French.”

Staff, with team mates Chris Hoy and Ross Edgar, reached the final by recording the second fastest time (43.910secs) in the early evening qualifying round.
