It is unclear how the group gained access to the plot but club bosses say police are aware.

"On Saturday evening a number of travellers turned up at the rugby club," a spokesman said.

"The police have been informed and the rugby club has been advised that the caravans will be moving on in the middle of the week.

"The first training session of the season for mini and juniors went ahead as planned on Sunday, and at the moment the travellers are not impacting on the day-to-day running of the club."

Police have been contacted for comment.
